Muriel K. Alward

DANVERS- Muriel K. (MacSwain) Alward, 98, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on August 14, 2016. She was a resident of Brooksby Village for ten years. She was the wife of the late Dana J. Alward, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage.
Born in Cambridge on April 27, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Edgerly and Katherine (Conlon) MacSwain. Muriel raised her family in Topsfield and Danvers and when they retired she lived in Hebron, NH for many years. She had been employed for many years as a registered nurse at Beverly Hospital. She was the head nurse of recovery and also a surgical nurse. Muriel was an accomplished artist, and loved to golf. She was energetic and out spoken, which went along with her quick wit. She was unique and in all the world.
She is survived by her children, Randolph B. Dodge III and his companion, Shirley of Martha’s Vineyard, Susan Fraher and her husband Tom of Tampa, FL, Nancy Sullivan and her husband Michael of Amesbury, Karen Perkins and her husband Dickie of Boothbay, ME and Janet Weeks and her husband Marty of Harpswell, ME, seven grandchildren, Amie, Katie, Patrick, Meghan, Ray, Robin and Tristan, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her adored cat, Molly.
Her Funeral Services will be held privately on a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Muriel’s name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA, 01923.
