Thomas J. Callaghan

DANVERS- Thomas J. Callaghan, 89, passed away on October 22, 2016 in Continuing Care at Brooksby Village, Peabody. He was the loving husband of the late Ethelyn R. (Howard) Callaghan with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born in Gurteen, County Sligo, Ireland on July 11, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Bridget (Horan) Callaghan. Thomas moved to the United States in 1954 and soon after became a proud U.S. citizen. He was a longtime resident of Danvers and a communicant at Saint Mary of the Annunciation Parish since 1960. Thomas enjoyed gardening, deep sea fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He loved Irish dancing, and was a member of the North Shore Irish Association and the Knights and Ladies of Saint Finbarr (Cork Club). Thomas rebuilt engines for more than 30 years and was known for his ability to fix almost anything.
He is survived by his son, Barry J. Callaghan of Beverly and his daughter and son-in-law, Linda M. and Edgar F. Packard of Beverly, two grandchildren, James and Laura Packard of Beverly, a brother John Callaghan of Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Vincent and Patrick Callaghan, and Mary Timmons.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Monday, October 31, 2016 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow at Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Visiting hours are Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4PM-7PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas’ name to the Brooksby Village Benevolent Care Fund, 200 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA, 01960.
