George R. Bohanon, 90, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at a local nursing facility. He was the husband of Vincenza “Jennie” (Buco) Bohanon, with whom he shared sixty-seven years of marriage. Born in Salem on June 13, 1926, he was the son of the late Ralph and Grace (Littlehale) Bohanon. He was raised and educated in Salem and served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for his service to our country. George was employed for many years at Danvers State Hospital until the time of his retirement. He had previously worked at Pioneer Plastics. A longtime Danvers resident and a communicant of Saint Richard Church, George enjoyed trips to Foxwoods and helping to manage his wife’s bowling league. He was also a terrific baker, famous for his rum cakes and cookies. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Ruth Andrews, Esther Chase, Gladys Tierney, Dorothy Gorman, and Marion, Charles, Roger, and Ralph Bohanon. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 9AM in Saint Richard Church. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
