Barbara (Teel) McDermott, 96, died Friday evening, May 5, 2017 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late H. James McDermott. Born in Danvers on June 18, 1920, she was the daughter of the late George and Rachel (Collins) Teel. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a 1938 graduate of Holten High School. She went on to the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing where she completed her training as a Registered Nurse. Barbara was employed in various nursing positions on the North Shore including the Visiting Nurses Association and the former Cedar Glen Nursing Home. She was currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Gilmanton Iron Works Library. She leaves her children, James “Barry” McDermott and his wife Judy of Georgia, Sheila McDermott of New Hampshire, Barbara “Sharon” Lonergan of Minnesota, Brian McDermott and his wife Martha of North Carolina, Tara Kissling and her husband Michael of Florida, and Elysa Drillette and her husband Thomas of Texas, ten granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol McDermott, and her brother, Frank Teel. Barbara’s life was full of love and laughter. She loved theater, singing, dancing, and playing the piano and any outdoor activity. She did intricate chair caning work in her retirement and was cross country skiing and snow-shoeing well into her eighties. Mostly, she loved people and was devoted to her family. At Barbara’s request, funeral services were held privately. Burial was in Annunciation Cemetery in Danvers. Condolences may be sent to her home in Gilmanton Iron Works, NH at P.O. Box 187, 03837.
