Meredith Price, 87, of Andover, MA, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA. He was the husband of Nancy Larkin Price, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in St. Augustine, FL on Feb. 20, 1933, Meredith was the son of the late Marcus and Florence Wharton Price. He was a graduate of Amherst College, and later earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Harvard University, where he met Ted Sizer who became his mentor at Harvard School of Education and later at Phillips Academy. For thirty-nine years Mr. Price taught English and coached soccer at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, where he also served as Associate Director of Admissions, Director of the Andover Summer School, and editor of the Andover Bulletin. A passion of his during his long tenure in secondary education was diversifying Andover’s student body, as he recruited students of color from across the country and advised the A Better Chance (ABC) student program. Mr. Price grew-up in the Washington DC area where he attended St. Alban’s School. It was there that he developed a love of singing and served as a choir boy at the National Cathedral. Later in life, he continued his love of choral music as a 30-year member of the New England Classical Singers. Mr. Price served in the U.S. Air Force for 18 years and was a steady presence for years in Andover’s Memorial Day parade. In addition to his wife Nancy, he leaves a son, Douglas Price of Concord, MA, a daughter, Amy Price McCord of Gloucester, MA, formerly of Anchorage, AK, granddaughter Caroline Price, grandson Andrew Price, and nephew Paul Daugherty of Cincinnati, OH. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Price Daugherty. Mr. Price loved his family, Phillips Academy, Kezar Lake in Lovell, MA and its Boulder Brook community that was a summer family for 50 years. A memorial service will be held at Phillips Academy at a later date when it is safe to gather.
