Bert Lawton

Bert Lawton, 77, of Danvers, died peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021 following a lengthy illness with his beloved wife Denise by his side.
Born in Lynn on Dec. 31, 1943, Bert always enjoyed celebrating his New Year’s Eve birthday with family and friends. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era, thoroughly enjoying his time in Germany.
A proud retired member of the Danvers Fire Department, Bert was best known as the owner and operator of Riverside Oil for thirty-six years.
He was a member of the Danversport Yacht Club and loved spending time on his boat, “Our Time.”
In addition to his wife, Denise Kenny of Danvers, he leaves his siblings, Judi Burrows and her husband Arnold, Raymond Lawton and his wife Patricia, and Michelle Heyde and her husband Mike, a stepsister, Corinne Allaire and her husband Roger, a sister-in-law, Susan Kenny-Welch and her late husband Norm. He also leaves two children, Paula Olson and David Lawton, numerous grandchildren, a great-grandson, and several nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Steven Ogilbee, a sister, Sandy Kanick, and a brother, John Lawton.
Bert’s family is especially grateful to the staff at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly for the special attention they showed to him during his illness.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 10:30AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, there are no visiting hours and burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bert’s memory may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970. Bert was such a wonderful man. We met him at Danversport Yacht Club and immediately became friends. He was so kind to my daughter we loved him so. RIP my friend! ❤️

So sorry to the family. I wish, as his son, I was given the opportunity to grieve. I had reached out to several family members over the past years for assistance in reconciliation. Even though they blocked those efforts, I am glad that I made those efforts. I was not made aware of his passing or the ceremonies until I saw a post on Facebook. To all who care, if given the opportunity, I will have stepped up.
