Derek M. Lyons

July 24, 1982 ~ October 29, 2021
Derek Michael Lyons, 39, of Danvers, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2021 with his family by his side.
Born in Danvers on July 24, 1982, he was the beloved son of Lisa (Moulton) Lyons, Stephen Lyons, and his stepfather, Donald Wright.
He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a 2001 graduate of Danvers High School and later earned a degree from Salem State University.
As a boy, Derek developed a passion for baseball, starting in Salem Little League for the Tigers and continuing in Danvers. Unknown at the time, but his dedication to the game would lead to a lifetime of friendships and happy times.
His determination, passion, and sheer talent allowed him to shine, and he helped lead the Falcons to their 2001 State Championship victory as #5 at shortstop.
He went on to play baseball at Dean College and Salem State College, and then continued to play league ball for Champions Pub and Trout Movers, where he had been employed in recent years.
Derek’s love of sports was remarkable, but any Boston team was, of course, his team.
In addition to his parents, he leaves a sister, Danielle Keenan and her boyfriend Michael Paraskoulakis and a host of family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Derek’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11AM until 2PM at Danversport, 161 Elliott St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Derek’s memory may be made to Danvers High School Baseball Boosters, c/o Peoples United Bank, 1 Conant St., Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements are by C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
From day 1 you loved Derek. Knowing him more from his football days he was just as talented as he was on the baseball field. But Derek was special because he was Derek. He had a smile and a way about him that instantly connected him with anyone. The outpouring of love shows just how much to those he crossed paths with. What a great kid, lost way too early.
The world is so unkind and I’ll never understand why you were taken away. My life will never be the same without my brother. I love you so much Derek. Rest in the sweetest Peace.
Wow wow wow!! First I would like to send my love to Derek’s family. Always remember he is in a beautiful place with a huge smile on his face. Derek was way more than a friend to me. He was my brother. For the past 26 years we had a bond that can and will never be matched. We would sit and have heart to heart talks about family, sports anything and everything. We would just laugh and laugh about anything even if it wasn’t that funny. We had a bond and a friendship that I will cherish forever! That Wednesday morning when my best friend died a piece of me died with him. He would come over and have family dinners with us all the time. My wife and kids absolutely adored him. He was uncle Derek to my Gregory and Niko. My wife and children are heartbroken over this! I remember sitting in my kitchen for hours with my wife and I with Derek playing 112 radio singing old school 90’s R&B music laughing for hours. I remember playing basketball for hours upon hours with him for years. I remember when my wife was pregnant with our 3rd son having Derek over and he was helping us out with picking his name. These are just a few memories with my buddy. I would do anything to spend 1 more day with him. DL I will never ever forget you and neither will my wife and kids. You are forever in our hearts. Til we meet again my buddy.
I love you!!
