SANDOWN, NH- Sandra A. (Kerwin) Smith, 61, passed away surrounded by her family on November 14, 2021. She was the loving wife of Richard J. Smith with whom she shared thirty-three years of marriage. Born in Lynn on July 12, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Robert and Susan (Kumph) Kerwin of Andover, Massachusetts and Spruce Head, Maine. Sandra was raised and educated in Andover and graduated from Andover High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Westfield State University. She had a diverse professional career and broad interests working for Putnam Investments, Smith and Nephew Dyonics and as a licensed practical nurse. For the past 13 years she was employed by the US Department of Homeland Security at Manchester Regional Airport. Sandy was “grounded to the earth”. She loved skiing, hiking, riding her horse and most of all her family. She will always be remembered by her infectious laugh that filled every room she entered but most of all by her graciousness and passion for animals. In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by her children, Shelby and Austin Smith of Sandown, NH, her aunt, Pat Kumph, her cousins, Doug, Scott, Michael and Kathy, all of NH, her cousin Donna Powell of Lynn, many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and her beloved array of four legged animals. Her Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in memory of Sandy Smith to support Dr. Priscilla Merriam’s Research Fund for leiomyosarcoma research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284. Please write checks payable to Dana-Farber and include Dr. Priscilla Merriam’s Research Fund in the memo section.
