Leona M. King

leona king
Leona M. King, 98, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2021, in hospice care. She had been currently living with her daughter and son-in-law at their home in South Chelmsford, MA. Leona was born in Medford, MA where she often claimed she had a happy and loving childhood. It was there she met her beloved husband George A. King (Bud) at the age of 11. She and Bud dated until they married on June 14,1946. She was the daughter of the late Mary and William Day and the youngest of their 4 children. She is survived by her son Gary (Elizabeth) King of Cumberland ME. and Ft. Myers, FLA, her daughter Nancy (Richard) Sartorelli of South Chelmsford, MA, and son Glenn (Mary) King of Florida. She also had 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She and Bud had a wonderful 29 yearlong retirement together, moving from Medford to their longtime favorite place, a summer home on Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford, NH. Early on, they very much enjoyed traveling before settling down to summers on the lake in NH and winters in Ft. Myers, FLA. They loved square dancing. After Bud passed in 2015, Leona alternated living with her son Gary and Liz in Maine and daughter Nancy and Richard in Chelmsford. She also spent time in summer at her home on the lake with all her family visiting. She loved spending time with all her grand and great grandchildren. She always spoke of how lucky she was to have such good health and a sound mind to such a ripe old age. She was always very grateful for the love and care her family gave her. We all loved her kindness and unconditional love and chocolate chip cookies. A private funeral was held Tuesday December 14th at Lyons & Sons Funeral Home in Danvers, MA with interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody, MA.
