SALEM-Christopher B. Corkum, 58, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2022, with an immediate family member and a long-time family friend beside him after a month-long battle with Covid-related illness. Born in Danvers, MA, he was the loving son of the late Lorraine (Zdanowicz) Allison and the late Harold Corkum, and the grandson of the late Jennie (Wesnieski) Zdanowicz and Stanley Zdanowicz. He is survived by many cousins. He was a graduate of Marblehead High School and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Christopher was a talented Animator and Sketch Artist who also loved movies. He had some small acting roles in the 2016 remake of “Ghostbusters,” the 2013 short film “The History of Halloween,” and 1991's “Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.” He appeared as himself in the 2012 documentary, “All Ages: The Boston Hardcore Film” and VH1's “Storytellers with Billy Idol” in 2001. His other filmography credits include 1984's “Screamplay” (Production Assistant), the 1987 Dokken music video “Burning Like A Flame” (Animation Crew) and the 1989 film short, “Kakania” (Animation Coloring Assistant). In the Late-1990s he also worked seasonally as a costumed actor for several horror-themed attractions in downtown Salem. In the 1980s he worked part-time in his parent’s antique bookstore in Marblehead, MA which led to his love of literature. He also had several Pet Grooming jobs in his younger years. Christopher’s knowledge of music was unparalleled. You could always pick him out of a crowd by his spiked blonde hair that always drew comparisons to one of his favorite musicians, Billy Idol. He recently started a tribute band named False Idol. He was an active and enthusiastic part of the local music scene whose presence and big megawatt smile always lit up the room and the stage. He was a very big fan of rock musician Glen Danzig (ex-Misfits/Samhain/Danzig) and was the vocalist for a Misfits cover band called 138 that regularly played out for the last 10 years. 138 always drew big crowds in downtown Salem during the City's annual October “Haunted Happenings” live events. Christopher was a wonderful, loyal friend with a great sense of humor. He had such a strong moral compass; he hardly ever told a lie and would never betray you. Christopher loved animals and owned several Shetland Sheep Dogs (“Shelties”) over the years, including his current canine companion, “Beau” who was his main concern while he was in the hospital. Beau is being adopted into a wonderful new home with a family friend. Beau will continue to enjoy “walkies” at their favorite place, The Chandler Hovey Lighthouse. Christopher's family will hold a private memorial service at a future date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Christopher’s name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA, 01970.

  3. Rest in Power Chris!! Always a treat for Pop Gun to play with 138!! You are still a great man just in another place. I will miss running into you!!
    Peace

  4. It was always a pleasure to see you at venues. You loved and supported local music! Your mom was my American Literature 1 and 2 professor and she was a sweetheart. When I lived in West Ave I would often see you walking your dog near Forest River Park. You were always friendly and courteous towards me. You will be missed!

  5. Many respects ya my old friend Salem and the rest of the world got a whole darker now. Rest In Peace and in power!!!!!

  6. For more than 25 years I lived in Salem and in some stretches I would often bump into Chris on my dog walks to Forest River Park. I shared a special love of Shelties with Chris and his mother, Lorraine, over the years and my Katie was good friends with their Savannah and watching them play together was sheer joy. They had me over with my Mini Aussie, Sophie, to say goodbye to them and their newer Sheltie, Beau, right before I moved to Florida in late 2016. Mother and son both seemed to defy their ages in so many ways and so I was shocked and saddened first when Lorraine died in 2020 and now to hear about Chris, both such gentle souls gone too soon. Chris was so full of creative energy, so smart and quick witted that most of the time while we walked and talked, he left me in the dust when it came to all his literary, musical, and cinematic references. But the way he treated Beau with the utmost love, respect, gentleness, and care (ice water at the ready!) told me all I needed to know about the moral qualities of this man, and we really connected at that level. To his family & friends who will so miss this kind and one of-a-kind man I am truly sorry for your loss. And to Chris, RIP knowing you gave Beau a wonderful life and yes, he will miss you dearly also, but he has found a good home now.

  7. I met Chris in 1987 at a show at The Paradise. We became fast friends and maintained a very special bond since then.

As I lived in Framingham at the time and getting to each other was difficult, we would instead talk on the phone for hours. We would talk about everything from our personal lives to which show was the next one we were both going to. Occasionally, I’d make it out to his house and would have a good time just hanging out with him, his mom and of course, always a Sheltie.

We had many, many mutual friends and always had a great time being around them and each other at shows, whether it was in the pit or just sitting and having a casual drink.

I came to affectionately nickname him Twisted Fur instead of Christopher. Don’t ask me how I came up with that one, but he loved it. He in turn would call me Dollface and that was just the way or friendship was for over 30 years.

I’m so deeply saddened to only now be learning about this awful loss… not just for myself, but also to the hundreds of other people’s lives whom he touched.

He has left a legacy of great memories that will live on, long past this awful time.

Chris, go find our friends that have departed before us and rock on at our favorite places that are also there.

I love you always, my Twisted Fur. I’ll meet you at The Channel.

    Jill ” Dollface” Gurney

  8. I really love this pic too, Jill. It captures his essence perfectly and the strong bond he had with Beau-Beau. I am so heartbroken! 🙁

  9. I only just heard of Chris’ passing this weekend (April 17) and like my husband, we’re in shock. We attended SMFA with him and the rest of the animation crew in the basement in the mid-80s. Chris, known as Corky sometimes, was and is unforgettable. I think this world will be a lot duller without his presence in it. Instead of resting in peace, I hope he’s rockin’ it with joy wherever he is. Because that’s how I remember him.
