Gloria (Ravell) Hopkins, 93, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025. She was the wife of the late Philip Edward Hopkins, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in Danvers on December 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Dorothy (Hodge) Ravell. Gloria was raised and educated in Belmont and Swampscott. She graduated from Swampscott High School where she was an active member of the Glee Club and Drama Club. After graduation her family moved back to Danvers and she worked in the Harvard University Library. It was commuting to Boston on the train where she met her future husband, who was attending Boston College. Shortly after marrying, she and Phil moved to Washington DC, and later to Japan where their first daughter was born. They lived in Tokyo and Okinawa for many years before moving back to Danvers in the early 1960s.

While living in Japan she learned the technique and art of sushi making. She showed off her talented cooking and sushi making skills when catering many events. She loved to cook and was a world-class gourmet with a variety of dishes that she enjoyed serving to numerous friends and family members.

She was a devout Catholic and was an active communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers, where she taught CCD for many years. Gloria was tireless and selfless in taking care of many members of both the Ravell and Hopkins families, including Phil’s great aunts and her mother’s brother-in-law, her favorite Uncle George. She was an early riser and attended daily mass and enjoyed socializing with her church friends at Brother’s after Mass.

She is survived by two children, daughter Kathryn Hopkins of Danvers and her son, Philip Elliott Hopkins and his wife Susan of Rockport; two grandchildren, Jennifer Connors of Peabody and Jessica Halwadjian of Wakefield; and two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alex. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda Connors and her siblings Virginia Hazlett, Charles Ravell, and Marjorie Peters.
