Mary Elizabeth “Marybeth” McGovern Kucy, 74, passed away on August 1, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was the wife of Lawrence J. “Larry” Kucy with whom she shared 47 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Mary I. (Casey) McGovern. Marybeth graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in 1968, and received her bachelor’s degree from Boston College, where she was very active in the Dramatics Society. After teaching and working in business, Marybeth devoted herself to being a homemaker and caring for her children. While living in Pennsylvania and North Carolina for several years, she made many friends but also kept closely involved with her family members in Massachusetts.
Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith guided her throughout her life. She cherished time spent with her family and friends and was known for her compassion and the kindness she showed others. Marybeth was a devout Catholic and had been a communicant of Saint Richard Parish in Danvers for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Christopher and her daughter Rachel, both of Danvers, her siblings Tom McGovern of Melrose, Margie Berube of Danvers, and Joan Gavin of Billerica, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her feline friends Thomas and Eileen.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest Street, Danvers, MA 01923. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass beginning at 10AM in the church. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marybeth’s name to Saint Richard Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online directions and condolences are available at www.LyonsFuneral.com.
