Elizabeth “Libby” Mary Hastings, 82, died of natural causes in her home on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

She retired last week as a professor in Business Management from Middlesex Community College where she taught since 1986.

Libby was born and raised in Clinton, MA on May 9, 1943. She was the first child of Alice Freel and Patrick Hastings.

Libby spent her life learning and obtaining many degrees. She graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse (RN) in 1964, and she obtained a nurse practitioner degree from Rivier College in Nashua, NH. After many years in nursing she combined her medical knowledge with another masters degree in education from Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, MA. She graduated (M.I.T.) Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Sloan School of Business Management and then directed many medical facilities in Boston, MA for several years. She expanded her international career by teaching business courses in Beijing, China for one year. Libby loved international travel and extensively explored the world.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, stepmother Mary E. Freel Hastings, her 2 younger brothers Patrick of Texas and Michael of Connecticut. She is survived by her “Irish Twin” sister Kathleen Wilkinson and her brother in law Kevin of York, Maine, and West Boylston, MA, her six nieces and nephews Brian Freel of Georgia, Matthew Wilkinson of West Boylston, MA, Patrick, Michael, Erica, and Melissa of Connecticut, and Patricia VanWinkle of Texas.

Elizabeth lived life to the fullest as a caring, loyal friend and family member. She always extended herself by sharing her love and joy with the multitude of family and her dear friends. She will be dearly missed by all who know her.

A private burial took place in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers.
