Resided in:
West Newbury, Massachusetts
Christine A. Twohig, 77, of West Newbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Dorchester on January 30, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Ellen (Lydeard) Smith. Christine was raised and educated in Lee, Pittsfield, and Woburn, where she graduated from Woburn High School. She later earned her degree from Eastern Nazarene College.
Christine lived for many years in Wilmington, where she raised her family, before residing in Gloucester, Arlington, and most recently West Newbury, where she had made her home for the past 15 years.
Christine’s professional journey reflected her perseverance and her deep love of words and photography. After beginning her career in computer programming and book publishing, she devoted many years to raising her children while also running a home daycare, volunteering in her community, and working part-time jobs. Determined to complete her education, she returned to school as a single parent, ultimately earning her Bachelor’s degree in Business Communications in 1998.
Her degree laid the foundation for her most fulfilling chapter: a 23-year career at MITRE in Bedford, where she rose from a file clerk in Corporate Communications to writer, editor, and ultimately managing editor of the company’s corporate magazine. She took pride in making complex government and technology work accessible and relatable — often adding the human touch with photography and storytelling. She loved interviewing people, covering unusual stories, and finding new ways to engage readers. Her colleagues admired her dedication, creativity, and professionalism, and many of those friendships lasted well beyond her working years.
Outside of work, Christine nurtured her lifelong love of writing and photography, finding joy in her writing club and artistic pursuits. She was also active in civic life as a member of the League of Women Voters, through voter registration initiatives, and as a volunteer with her local Town Recreation Department. Above all, she cherished her family and delighted in her role as “Nana,” spending time each week with her beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, George Twohig and his wife Amanda of Saratoga Springs, NY, Shelly Hudson and her husband Stuart of Danvers, and Derek Twohig and his wife Lindsey of Elliot, ME. She was the beloved grandmother of six grandchildren, Lillian, Annabelle, Evelyn, Leighla, Benjamin, and Shannon.
Christine was predeceased by her long-time partner, Robert D’Amore, and her sisters, Blanche Peck and Diane Teto.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant Street, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited.
