It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Paul David, who departed this life on June 11, 2026, at the age of 85 in Williamsburg, VA. Born on June 3, 1941, at Salem Hospital in Salem, MA, Norman’s journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and love for family and friends.
Norman began his career with humble beginnings, delivering eggs for his family’s business, bagging groceries at Stop & Shop, and being Mr. Planter’s Peanut Man in Salem, MA. His industrious nature led him to embark on a distinguished career at General Electric in Lynn, MA. His professional path took him from MA, IN, and FL. He later contributed his talents at Boeing and co-owned Systems Northwest in Washington, where he was instrumental in designing and building aircraft mechanical test equipment. He also worked with NASA in VA. His career culminated with retirements from General Electric and Northrop Grumman in VA, after which he worked alongside his Realtor® wife as a licensed real estate agent in VA.
A man of varied interests, Norman cherished vintage music, old western movies, radio and television programs. He had an enduring fascination with anything train-related and was a published poet. His love for discovering old western towns, tinkering, traveling, and photography enriched his life. Above all, he valued spending time with his beloved family.
Norman’s commitment extended beyond his professional endeavors. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1960–1964 and had attended St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Norge, VA. In his earlier years, he participated in the Salem, MA Exchange Club and received accolades at the Topsfield, MA Fair for his hobby of raising racing pigeons.
Educated at St. James Elementary School and a proud member of the Salem High School Class of 1959, Norman furthered his studies at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Pacific Western University.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Olier and Catherine H. David of MA; older brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Andrea David of MA; sister, Janet (née David) Audesse of MA; nephews John Audesse of MA and Paul David (formerly of MA); and lifelong friend Allen Grace.
Norman is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 49 years, Catherine (née D’Ambrosio) David of VA (formerly of MA); daughter Sarah David of VA; grandson Ayden Flaherty of VA; stepson and wife Kyle of VA (formerly of MA) and Katy Sargent of VA; step-grandchildren Clayton and Riley Sargent of VA. He also leaves behind his younger sister and brother-in-law Mary of IA (formerly of MA) and Mark Obert of IA; brother-in-law Emery Audesse of MA; brother-in-law and wife Ralph and Karen D’Ambrosio of MA; sister-in-law Gianina (née D’Ambrosio) of AK (formerly of MA) and husband Peter Gribbin of AK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews across the continent.
His Funeral Service will be held at C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by an urn burial at Wenham Cemetery, Main Street, Wenham, MA 01984.
