Claire W. (Wheeler) Poirier, age 97, of Danvers, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026.  She was the wife of Charles S. Poirier, with whom she shared 77 years of marriage.

Born in Danvers on February 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Mabel (Blanchard) Wheeler. Raised and educated in Danvers, Claire was a graduate of Holten High School and remained a lifelong resident of Danvers.

Claire was a longtime member of the First Church of Danvers before later joining Maple Street Congregational Church. A devoted member of the Danvers Garden Club, she found great joy in gardening and the beauty of nature. She also enjoyed staying active through her regular exercise classes at the Danvers YMCA.

Claire was an avid golfer whose love of the game was highlighted by the thrill of scoring a hole-in-one. She also enjoyed bowling was a gifted musician, Claire shared her talents by playing both the piano and the organ throughout her life.

Claire was an avid sports fan–especially football. She made amazing knitted sweaters. But most of all she LOVED doing puzzles.

Above all, Claire was devoted to her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her love and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Kenneth Poirier and his wife, Judy, of Arizona, Debra Barrowclough and her husband, Bruce, of Danvers, Susan Milne and her husband, James, of Danvers, and Ronald Poirier and his wife, Cherie, of Nashua, New Hampshire; 11 cherished grandchildren; 14 adored great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Melissa Barrowclough, and her brother, Donald Wheeler.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:45 p.m. at C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm Street, Danvers Square. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.   1. Claire and I played together many times in the Saturday golf league at the Lake Forest Resort. She was indeed a good golfer and a fun lady to visit with. I’m so glad she had a good, long life.
