Stephen C. Lane, 79, passed away on July 18, 2026.
Born in Newton on July 15, 1947, Stephen was the son of the late Charles and Emma (Landry) Lane. Proudly raised in the “The Lake” and educated in Newton, he graduated from Newton North High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State and a master’s degree from Salem State. Stephen worked for many years as a manager at TWA before becoming a woodworking teacher at the McKinley Schools in Boston. He took pride in his work and the very special experiences that he was able to give his students like building boats, participating in soapbox derby races, and even bringing them on trips to Burger King.
Stephen enjoyed antiquing, cooking, carving, and painting, but he most loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the greatest joy of his life, and he cherished sharing time going to Salem Willows, spoiling them with surprises, stopping by to visit daily, and just watching them play.
He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Fine of Beverly and Kandy Lovejoy and her husband Erik of Danvers, his grandchildren, Evan and Lydia Fine and Carter and Willa Lovejoy, and his sisters Judith Lane of Newton and twin Sandra “Shushie” Parent of Plymouth, and his former wife Deena Lane.

I worked with Steve at the Swampscott middle school. We were both”specialists.”
He was kind and generous and fun. I still have and use the rolling pin, large cutting board and pizza peel he made me. I was also the lucky recipient of his delicious pesto in the early fall. I taught nutrition and cooking and we often talked about foods and compared recipes.He loved to talk about his daughters and the trips he took with them. One Halloween I was a devil and he was an angel – many fond memories!
I worked with Steve many years at TWA Reservations at Center Plaza and at
Logan Airport all I can say is we had a lot of fun. Great guy to be with and enjoyed life.
We all will miss him. My condolences to his family. Rest in Pease my Friend.
I had the privilege of being Steve’s friend and colleague during and after Swampscott Middle School. We spent a lot of time together during those days. He cherished his daughters and grandkids and told many tales about them. There were many pranks between us which we both enjoyed. He loved to share his experiences and advice with me which were always welcomed. You’ll be missed Steve.

When I was a kid and my parents were friends with him and his wife, we all used to visit them in Marblehead and have such a great time with them and their daughters. Steve had a great sense of humor, was so cool, and made such a mean pizza. Thankful that even as a kid I got to connect with him and get to treasure memories of the time we got to enjoy together. Rest in peace, buddy. We’ll make some great pizzas together when we meet on the other side.
