Marcy Hannah Almeida

Marcy Hannah Almeida passed away peacefully at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, surrounded by the love of her family.

A native of Waycross, Georgia, she spent much of her childhood on the beautiful Georgia coast, living at St. Simons and St. Marys. She attended the University of Georgia, where she met a law student from Massachusetts who stole her heart despite his funny accent. Marcy and John’s love story continued for the next 30 years. They were joined by a son, Russell, and daughter, Lindy, and they made a wonderful life together.

Marcy was an incredibly devoted mother and wife who kept her family on track through their busy schedules and activities over the years. Marcy loved cooking, and it was very important to her that her family make time to sit together for dinner not just for the meal but for the conversations and connections. She loved to prepare vegetables from the family garden to eat fresh or to save for the winter in the freezer or in jars. She enjoyed her flock of chickens in the backyard, and a favorite family story is about the time she defended them from a hawk with a rake.

Marcy loved the water, especially the times she spent fishing with her husband.

After meeting at UGA (“Hunker down, Dawgs!”), Marcy and John moved to Washington, D.C. She worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, first in human resources and then in information technology, where she developed the federal government’s first online reservation system for booking campsites and other recreation activities. After the young family moved to Danvers, Mass., Marcy worked in case management and compliance at Beverly Hospital. While it wasn’t in her job description, she enjoyed bringing her light to people in the hospital who needed it most.

Marcy did a lot of research on her family tree and discovered that an ancestor on her father’s side came to Ipswich, Mass. during colonial days — quite a surprise for a proud Georgia girl to learn she had Yankee roots! She loved Massachusetts but never got used to the winters.

Marcy is survived by her husband John, son Russell, daughter Lindy, father James Hannah, brother Jimbo Hannah (wife Annika), sister Amy Hannah Johnson, sister-in-law Amy Almeida, sister-in-law Beth Almeida (husband Christian), brother-in-law Leo Almeida (wife Gina), brother-in-law Scott Almeida (wife Michele), nieces and nephews Maizy Miles, Tripp Hannah, Francesca, Sylvia and Veronica Almeida, Henry and Georgina Weller, and Audrey, Lilian and Ellie Almeida. She was predeceased by her mother, Martha McCrary Hannah.

Marcy’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Saint Richard Parish, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm Street, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marcy’s memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930, who introduced Marcy to her beloved friend Woodsey.
