DANVERS- Antonio “Tony” Paonessa, 91, passed away on September 14, 2016 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of Gale E. (Keough) Paonessa with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. Born on Sept. 14, 1925, he was the son of the late Dominic and Theresa (Severino) Paonessa. He was born in Calabria, Italy and moved to the United States when he was three years old. Tony was a graduate of Winchester High School and attended MIT. He served our country with the United States Navy during both WWII and the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He had been stationed in Newfoundland when he met his wife to be, Gale. Tony had been a home builder and had his own business, Citation Homes. When he could no longer build homes he worked as an appraiser for Saugus Bank. He also had his real estate license. In addition to his wife, Gale, he is survived by three children, Michael Paonessa and his wife, Valerie of N. Reading, Helen Norton of NH and Elizabeth Cadmus of Danvers, five grandchildren, Brian, Nathan, Tyler and Simon Paonessa and his buddy, Thomas “Powder” Cadmus, three brothers, Joseph Paonessa and his wife, Florence of Stoneham, Rev. Ralph Paonessa of Canada and Cosmo Paonessa and his wife Beverly of NH, many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Newfoundland. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Elizabeth Paonessa. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on at 10AM on Monday, September 19, 2016 in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Visitation will be held on Monday prior to the Mass from 8AM-9:45AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Tony’s name to Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Liberty St., Danvers, MA, 01923 or Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers, MA, 01923.

  1. Uncle Tony and Aunt Gale and our cousins have been coming home to NFLD since 1966. The connection between our families was one like no other … Through the years the travelling to Boston and to NFLD became a yearly event . They welcomed family and friends alike … their kind hearts and warmth was immediately felt by everyone … Uncle Tony on many of his visits back to NFLD needed hobbled to do to keep himself busy and that’s just what he did . I’m pretty certain in everyone of his nieces or newphews houses he managed to fix something for us as he did in our parents Michael and Theresa’s house .. we will always miss you help , your knowledge and that infectious laugh… I love you Uncle Tony rest well now πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

    I am truly sorry for your loss. Tony was a great fun loving person. I felt so welcome back many years ago when a bunch of newfie girls crashed at your house. It was so much fun!!! God Bless you all and know that you are in my prayers.

  3. I will always remember Sundays in the summer spent at Uncle Tony’s and Aunty Gale’s house. Also stopping at the garage on Fieldstone Dr on my way home from school to say HI! Rest in peace you deserve it

    I am truly sorry for your loss. Your father, Husband, Uncle, Grampy & Friend was one of the nicest people I know and I know that he was a great dad too!
    There is not grieving message that can express how much he meant to me. My heart is Broken Also. No matter wherever he is, he’ll always be watching over you. He will stay with you forever. May your heart find comfort in the many roles that he played in your lives, memories and love he gave you! Sitting in his chair in the driveway, Watching the Birds. Thomas was the sparkle in his Eye-So Very Very Proud, Always talking about his Grandson to Everyone. Loved going to his games for many years! Baseball and Football at the Paonessa Home won’t be the same- God Bless you PA, you will be missed-You were a Keeper!
