Barbara J. Conti

April 12, 1954 ~ March 31, 2021
Barbara J. (McCallion) Conti, 66, of Danvers, passed away peacefully in her home with family by her side on Wednesday evening, March 31 after a brief battle with cancer. She was the wife of Anthony M. Conti with whom she shared 43 years of marriage.
Born in Woburn on April 12, 1954, she was the daughter of Clare M. (Starble) Sullivan and the late John E. McCallion. Barbara was raised and educated in Marblehead and graduated from Marblehead High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Salem State University.
Barbara had a long, successful career in Human Resources during which she built many strong professional and personal relationships at various institutions. Barbara never hesitated to lend a helping hand or give professional advice to anyone who walked into her office. Barbara loved spending time with her family, traveling (especially to Aruba), and spending summers out on the deck by her pool. A big Patriots fan, Barbara made many trips to Miami with her husband and close friends to root on her favorite team.
In addition to her husband, Anthony and her mother Clare, she is survived by her two children and their spouses, Michael and Jennifer Conti of Plaistow, NH, Kristen and Robert Tarallo of Peabody, two grandchildren, Kyle and Caroline Conti, and three siblings, Janet Levine of Danvers, John McCallion of Scituate, and Laurie Flory of East Hampstead, NH, along with several nieces and nephews. Barbara is pre-deceased by her step-father Daniel Sullivan.
Mrs. Conti’s family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Care Dimensions of Danvers and the Gordon College Center for Balance, Mobility & Wellness for their dedication and care provided to her and her entire family during her illness.
Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Attendees are kindly asked to wear facial coverings and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers or the Gordon Center for Balance, Mobility & Wellness, 26R Hull St., Wenham, MA, 01984.

I had the pleasure of working with Barbara in two different institutions where she headed Human Resources.
Running an H.R. department is extremely difficult; its essence is balancing the seemingly contradictory responsibilities of advancing corporate goals while maintaining the respect and confidence of the employees. Few can do it well and none can do it with ease.
Barbara undertook her responsibilities seriously and performed each with extraordinary skill, knowledge and competence. What set her apart and raised her performance to the highest levels was that her extensive professional knowledge and expertise were leavened by her own sweet nature, innate kindness, personal integrity and compassionate understanding of human nature with all its strengths and weaknesses.
Professionally Barbara accomplished greatly and, in the course of her career, helped, defended, counseled and advised countless individuals who benefited greatly from Barbara’s wisdom, kindness and caring about them.
I am indebted to Barbara for years of wise counsel that prevented many missteps I would have taken without her thoughtful insight. I regret that I cannot be with you tonight but know of my deepest sympathy and appreciation of the depth of your loss.
