Catherine C. (Romeos) Marcus, 95, died Saturday, August 5, 2017, at a local rehab facility. She was the wife of the late William Marcus, who predeceased her in 1959. Born in Salem on Sept. 5, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Costas and Athena (Kleros) Romeos. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a 1939 graduate of Holten High School. Following her graduation from the Salem Commercial School, Mrs. Marcus began her career at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard. Starting as a typist, she ultimately retired as the Supervisor of Personnel at the closure of the shipyard. During her time there, she was recognized with numerous citations and awards for her hard work and accomplishments. She loved gardening, the outdoors, and her dogs. She was an avid Boston sports fan. She was a kind and generous woman, with both her time and finances. She will be remembered for her strength and loyalty to her family. She leaves a multitude of nieces and nephews, including Nancy Donovan of Danvers, with whom she was especially close. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Charles Marcus, two brothers, James and Michael Romeos, and a niece, Constance Bernardo. Her Funeral Service will be Weds., August 9, 2017 at 10AM in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-7PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Marcus’ memory may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
