Janice dedicated 36 years to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher in Danvers, spending many years at Thorpe School where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues

Beyond her career, Janice gave generously of her time and spirit to her community. She was a life member of the Maple Street Congregational Church and served as Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Burnett Chapter. Her civic engagement included an extraordinary 41 years as a Danvers Town Meeting Member—a testament to her unwavering devotion to public service. Janice was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Israel Putnam Chapter, and, the Polish Club, the Danvers Republican Town Committee. She also delighted in her longtime sponsorship of the Danvers Doll Carriage Parade, bringing joy and tradition to local families year after year.

For decades, Jan delighted in spending time at Kiwanis functions with her husband, before becoming a member herself.  She was a former member of the Danvers Cable Advisory Committee and the Friends of the Danvers Council on Aging.

She is survived by her children: Walter Tipert III and his wife Christen of Danvers; Andrea Crawford of Newnan, Georgia; Monica Tipert and her partner Sheila Rizzotti of Danvers; and Lance Tipert and his partner Angie Adams of Stephenville, Texas. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Jan Tipert was a phenomenal human being who dedicated her life to children and her town.
My daughter Jacki Lapointe was in her Kindergarten class and maintained an amazing relationship through her adult life.
Jan was such a joyful soul who remembered all of “her kids”.
A job well done, Janice… You were a faithful servant who served, and I know that you were welcomed with open arms into God’s mansion.

May you rest in peace, and may you always carry the memories that you shared in your time on earth.❤️❤️

  2. Probably the nicest teacher (Great Oak, 2nd grade, 1968-69) I’ve ever had.
My condolences to Wally and the whole family.

    Mark Powers

  3. Andrea, Monica, Wally and Lance – I am so sorry for your family’s loss. Your Mom was an inspiration to me throughout my Rainbow years. A woman of grace, kindness, humor and strength. When my mother passed a few years ago, yours reached out to me. The gesture meant so much to me, and my mother would have appreciated it as well. My mother greatly respected your Mom (and my mother didn’t feel that way about many people). May your lifetime of memories provide you some peace as you go through this difficult time, and know that there are so many people like me who are thinking of you and feeling blessed to have known your mother.

  4. Remembering your sister/mother/grandmother, thinking of you during this time of loss. With sincere sympathy, Dona (Prosser) McDuff

  5. Wally & family’s we give our prayers to you & your family Janice was an exceptional lady. I would walk by her house w/Reese my dog & would chat for quite a long time as she did like to “CHAT”as do I. She is in my prayers God bless her..Don & Joyce Cronin

    • Like Joyce, I will remember 🌟chatting with Jan in the porch about “all things Danvers “. She will always be in my thoughts while “walking the beat” in the Square and she will be missed as a kind soul and a true Danversite”! Rest in Peace Dear Lady ❤️.

  6. Dear Jan
We had such great memories our entire lives, including the 1980 olympics in New York, until this last year when you and I had wonderful talks on the phone. I will always remember our last talk on Tuesday it was very enjoyable for both of us.

    Love you Jan
    Your brother Sam

  7. O What wonders that we take on our final guided flight. The chambers we must pass without a chance to fight, headed from day one toward the brightest storied light. As I gaze into the night the holy dome a wondrous sight, all souls alive tonight for one with such delight.

  8. My deepest sympathy to the family. Jan will long be rememberred by many and definitely missed in town.
So sorry I could not attend the services. May she rest in peace.

  9. Walter, I was saddened to read of your Mom’s passing, and Danvers losing an ardent resident. Janice was always welcoming to join her on the front porch where we shared our teaching days in Danvers. May your family, friends, and memories of Mom bring you comfort and peace.

  10. Jan Tipert touched so many lives, including those of my two daughters. I remember so well when I was going through a painful divorce and it was Parents’ night at Thorpe. Jan looked around at several of us going through a similar situation, and said, Tonight we’re going to have all the Mommies sit on this side and all the Daddies on the other side! She always had the children in her mind! Thank you, Jan: rest in peace!
    Linda Petelle
