Joanne Ciesinski

November 5, 1937 ~ August 5, 2020
DANVERS- Joanne (Duffy) Ciesinski, 82, peacefully passed away on August 5, 2020 from a short bout of cancer. She was the beloved wife of Edward Ciesinski, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.
Born on November 5, 1937 in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Sheldon and Mary (Sheedy) Duffy. Joanne was raised and educated in Danvers and graduated from Holten High School in 1955. She received her associate’s degree from Chandler Junior College in Boston. She was a faithful communicant of Saint Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Danvers. Joanne was also a former member of the Danversport Yacht Club. After her children were along in school, she began a career of over 20 years at New England Telephone & Telegraph and the Essex County Coop.
She was one of the few survivors of the Swampscott Train wreck in 1956. On her way into Boston for school, Joanne and her father (who also survived) were the only survivors in the train car. Her father would not allow her to sit with her friends that were seated at the front of the train. That decision saved their lives.
Joanne was an avid boater and spent countless hours on the waters and beaches of the North Shore with her family. You could always find Joanne and her husband at school and athletic events of their children and grandchildren. Although more recently Joanne had lived in Beverly, her heart was always in Danvers.
Joanne was a kind, loving wife, mom and “Nana” to all her family. She had many friends with whom she cherished dearly. She was fondly known as Jojo and Mrs. Cye.
In addition to her husband, Edward, she is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Lisa Ciesinski of Danvers, Michael and Lisa Ciesinski of Hopkinton and John and Michelle Ciesinski of Danvers, her brother Lawrence Duffy of NH, four grandchildren, Tara, Nathan, Ryan and Will, two nephews, Matthew Duffy of Melrose and Neal Duffy of Swampscott and their families.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Thursday, August 5, 2021 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joanne’s name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St. Danvers, MA 01923.

I will miss seeing her around town and down at the boat where I could always get a smile when I would call to her, “It’s Ma Ciesinski” to which she would always reply politely, “Hello Mickey”. She was a wonderful person who’s smile and joy will echo endlessly.
Joanne was my dear companion in the water aerobics program at the Danvers Ymca and she always brought the most beautiful smile and disposition to our gathering in the water. I was very sad to hear of her passing, and will always remember her as a pure delight.
So very sorry to hear of Jo’s passing. She and her family were friends and she will be greatly missed. I miss going to the Ymca with her and chatting on the phone while we are at home. She was a lovely, kind person and our prayers go out to her family.
Sally and George Gamble family
Many condolences to Cy and all the family. We remember Jo from our Danversport Yacht Club days (“Silver Bullet”). She was a lovely woman, and we were happy to run into her a few years ago, after we left boating, walking along Independence Park in Beverly. We will let the other DYC friends know the sad news. You are in our thoughts.
To the Cye Family,
Dennis and I send our deepest sympathy on Joanne’s passing. We have many memories of the family’s days on Carolyn Drive. We’ll miss our chats after Mass and at Brothers. Joanne was always interested in our family and happily shared updates on hers. We, as many do, will remember Joanne as a beautiful lady with her welcoming smile and warm heart.
Rest peacefully my beautiful friend.
Billy and Jack
