Joanne Lucille Twombly, 82, of Danvers, formerly of Needham, died peacefully surrounded by her children on Thursday, May 3 at Masconomet Healthcare in Topsfield. Joanne was born August 25, 1935, the daughter of Ruth (Roffe) and Eldon Moulton. She graduated Needham High School in 1953 and married in 1954. She and her family moved to Danvers in 1957, where she spent the rest of her life. Joanne LOVED watching and listening to the Boston Bruins from the late 60’s thru present day. Later in life, she loved going to the Danvers Senior Center where she enjoyed listening to the Music and participating in the Blind Group. She was a descendent of Mayflower passenger, John Howland and a descendant of Rebecca Nurse. She leaves behind 8 children, Karen Kennedy and her husband Richard of Danvers, Gail Benson and her husband, John of South Attleboro, Deborah Leblanc of Danvers, Michael Twombly of Ashby, David Twombly and his wife, Joanna of Mount Home, AR, Donna Donnelly and her husband, James of Manchester, CT, Cheryl Tessier and her husband, Joseph of Plymouth, and Kim and her significant other, Matt Malerba of Southbridge. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, Christopher Benson and his wife, Ciara, Brian Benson and his wife, Jeanette, Stephanie Benson, Jason Leblanc and his wife Jessica, Shayna Leblanc, Curtis Twombly, Kelsie Twombly, Jody Stuart and her husband Andrew, Nicholas Finn and his wife Amber, Kyle Finn and his wife, Ashley, Matthew Twombly, Jack Donnelly, Jenna Donnelly, Sarah Tessier and Melissa Tessier, and 8 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kevin and John Benson II, David and Aidyn Stuart, Abigail, Kora and Duanne Finn. She leaves behind a brother Alan and his wife Bonnie, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, a brother, Steven and a niece and nephew. She also leaves behind very close friend Sara McQuarrie. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10AM in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Burial will be held privately in Needham Cemetery. Donations may be sent in her name to the Friends of the Danvers Council on Aging, 25 Stone St Danvers, MA 01923, Care Dimensions Palliative and Hospice Care, 75 Sylvan St Danvers, MA 01923, or Masconomet Healthcare, 123 High St Topsfield, MA 01983.

  6. Joanne was a kind and gentle person..she was a wonderful mother to all her children.. she often came to my house for lunch many years ago…she will be missed.

  7. Debbie, I don’t know how I missed this over the many years of friendship but had no idea your mom was a dependent of the Mayflower. What a wonderful family she created. May your mother rest in peace.
