Born in: Danvers, Massachusetts
Resided in: Beverly, Massachusetts

John H. Douglass, of Beverly, formerly of Danvers, passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Born on December 27, 1961, John was the son of the late Lloyd Robert Douglass and Roberta Douglass.  He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1980.  A longtime resident of Danvers, John was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, coach, and friend.
John proudly worked for more than 35 years alongside his family at Douglass Appliance, where he was known for his dedication, hard work, and commitment to the customers and coworkers he considered family.
In his younger years, John was deeply involved in his community as a coach and mentor. He coached swimming and diving at Peabody High School and Masconomet Regional High School, where he encouraged countless student-athletes and took great pride in helping young people develop confidence and discipline.
John was also a grateful friend of Bill W., and through that fellowship he formed many lasting friendships and helped others find hope, strength, and support.
John’s happiest moments were spent with family. He especially cherished camping trips at Sebago Lake State Park, where time together around the fire and enjoying the outdoors became treasured traditions.
He is survived by his sons, Jay Douglass and his wife Sarah of North Andover, MA, and Brian Douglass and his wife Emily of Stratham, NH. He was the proud grandfather of Henry, Eloise, and Tommy. John is also survived by his brothers, Lloyd Douglass and his wife Angela, and Glenn Douglass and his wife Debbie; his sisters, Debra Lathrop and her husband Jeff, Brenda Ferris and her husband Scott, all of Danvers, MA, and Diana Young and her husband Kurt of Kingston, NH; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered for his warmth, quick wit, generous spirit, and steady kindness. His greatest joy came from being a father, a grandfather, and a devoted presence for his family.
His Funeral Service will be Friday, October 24, 2025 at 11:00a.m. in Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Visitation will be in the church prior to the service from 10:00a.m. until 10:45a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.  Arrangements are by C.R. 2. “Mr. Douglass” as he was know in my family because he was my son’s youth soccer coach and that is how we referred to him was a wonderful guy’s guy and my son, Timothy loved his coaching style. I remember looking across the green field and seeing Mr. Douglass surrounded by his team and how happy they all were. A man who gives of his time to others lives on forever.

  3. My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with the family and friends of John. I was honored to call him my cousin. I will cherish my time with him here on earth. I regret that I am not able to attend his services and pay my respect to family. I will be with you all in spirit. May the memories bring healing to you all; in due time. Love, Maryellen & Donald

I am saddened and shocked that we lost John so suddenly. He and I had some good times together when we were young. I will cherish those memories and am happy that we were able to spend some time together again this August. I regret that I can’t be there to personally pay my respects but please know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers. With sympathy and love, Michael

  7. To all, my sincere condolences to all of you. I was his childhood friend and I have had the pleasure of sharing stories from our pasts. My heart breaks for you and he will be missed.
