February 6, 1936 ~ December 3, 2025

Born in: Danvers, Massachusetts
Resided in: Ipswich, Massachusetts

John Paul Jones, 89, died peacefully Wednesday, December 4, 2025, at Beverly Hospital.

Born in Danvers on February 6, 1936, he was the son of the late John A. and Mona (Creeden) Jones. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a 1953 graduate of Peabody High School and later earned an associate’s degree from Boston University.

Paul served honorably in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany as an aerial photographer. Following his military service, he began a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service in Danvers. Over 39 years, he became a familiar and trusted presence on his routes, serving the community with warmth, reliability, and good humor. He was also active in the Postal Union, where he served as an officer and advocate for his colleagues.

A longtime resident of Danvers, Paul and his wife, Petie, spent several years enjoying retirement in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, before most recently settling in Ipswich. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and learned early in life the joy of entertaining—a gift passed down from his parents. Paul loved to sing and to bring smiles to others, whether gathered with family and friends or performing annually at the Hogan Regional Center, where his presence became a cherished tradition. He was also a devoted Notre Dame football fan, faithfully cheering on the Fighting Irish each season.

Paul leaves his wife of nearly 65 years, Patricia A. “Petie” (Connolly) Jones; two children, Jacqueline Jones of Schnecksville, Pennsylvania and her partner, John Hayes, and Jack Jones and his wife, Julie, of Beverly; and five grandchildren, Johnny, Cassie, and Carly Jones and Matthew and Elizabeth Szmigiel. He also leaves several extended family members and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Jacqueline Wilson and Col. Henry Harold Tufts.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 12 p.m. in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm Street, Danvers Square. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the National Association of Letter Carriers Disaster Relief Foundation, 100 Indiana Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001. 1. To Petie and family…
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all of you at this most difficult time. John Paul was a special person, a kind, loving, gentle, fun-loving Irishman with all the wit, wisdom and Irish flair that made him one-of-a-kind. He will never be forgotten and I am [as Carl was] blessed to call him my friend.
    I love you both,
    sharon
