John W. Churchill

April 28, 1946 ~ September 3, 2020
READING- John W. Churchill, 74, passed away on September 3, 2020, after a brief illness at the Kaplan Hospice House. He will be remembered lovingly by his life partner Nancy MacLean, with whom he shared 18 years together.
Born in Salem on April 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Walter and Mildred (Mallock), Churchill. John was raised and educated in Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School in 1964. He went on to attend Tufts University studying literature. He played on the football team in both High School and at Tufts, often happily reminisced about those days. John worked at his father’s company Dalton Electric at a young age and became the owner upon Walter’s death. He was enthusiastic about his career; inventing heating technologies that resulted in multiple patents. Many years after selling Dalton, he became the founder and president of Sun Electric Heater, Inc. in Salem. Sun was John’s vocation and his hobby. Seeing John jotting and drawing in a notebook was a lifelong norm. He will be missed by Sun Electric’s dedicated, hard-working employees and we will all miss the stories of his maniacal relationship with the shop swaggers. John was an avid reader, a World War II buff, and enjoyed weekend getaways. He also loved flying airplanes but struggled with the landings. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart along with his beloved dog, Mia.
In addition to his companion, Nancy, he is survived by his three sons, Adam Churchill and his wife, Jenny of Danvers, Justin Churchill of Danvers and Matthew Churchill and his wife, Suzanne Cahill of Wenham, his grandchildren, Bryn, Brigid, Una and Finnegan, his former wife, Paula Churchill of Danvers, his sisters, Jeanne Gifford of Maine and Ann Churchill of Salem, his partner’s loving family, Joshua MacLean and his wife, Kate of Westwood, Jennifer Barron and her husband, Marc of Braintree and Liz Araujo and her wife, Yolli of Tyngsboro, Cameron, Luke, Nick, Tori and Michael.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family. All other services will be held privately. I knew John for a long time, my dad and him used to mess around with each other everytime food truck came around or even just after work. I will always remember him bringing me to the old shop and telling me stories about the underground pool he swam in under Beverly shop. RIP John.
We will miss you John! You were the best and most unique boss I’ve ever had! Rest In Peace!
Coach Churchill, I’m sorry you lost your father. I’m sure he will always be with you.
