Joseph P. Cormier, 90, of Peabody, MA, died Friday evening, November 8, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. Born in Van Buren, Maine on May 17, 1929, he was the son of the late Paul and Eva (Theriault) Cormier. Joe served honorably in the U.S Air Force during the Korean War. After his service in the U. S Air Force, he went to work as a commercial photographer in Boston and later as an industrial photographer with Avco Research Labs in Everett until his retirement. In his later years he became an avid cyclist and logged many miles on his bicycles throughout the Northshore , Maine and Canada. He completed many century trips on his touring and recumbent bikes. Joe was a member of the Northshore Cyclists and contributed many articles to their newsletters. After retirement Joe converted his basement into a woodworking shop. He created countless pieces of furniture, as well as toys. Having a variety of interests, Joe was also a gardener for many years and liked reading about the Civil War. Throughout his entire life Joe continued to enjoy photography. He leaves his sister, Lucille Geaghan of Maine and his dear friends and adopted family Alonzo and Jane Hebert of Groveland, MA., and their children, Ilana and Matthew. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters, Constance Mutton, and Mary Ann Laughlin and his brothers Arthur, Emile, Roland, and Clifford Cormier. Funeral service will be held privately.
