Mariam “Mame” P. Delaney (Racine), 87, passed away after a long illness on January 6, 2021. Mame was born on June 22, 1933 in Orleans, VT to the late Paul & Achsah (Smith) Racine. She attended the local schools and graduated from Orleans High School, class of 50. Upon graduation, she moved to Boston, MA where she met her husband of 61 years, Jack Delaney of Quincy. She and Jack raised their family in Danvers, MA, and later moved to Topsfield, MA, where she attended Maple Street Congregational Church, and was currently a member of the First Congregational Church of Rowley. She worked for many years in the restaurant industry, including Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead where she worked for approximately 30 years. She also gave much of her time volunteering for many different organizations. She is survived by her brother Paul and sister-in-law Betty Racine, by her sons Timothy & wife Janet Delaney, Christopher & wife Shirley Delaney, Jeffrey & wife Martha Delaney, niece Janna Noyes & Harry Noyes, by grandchildren Lindsay & husband Jaunel Weekes, John & wife Kristen Delaney, Erin Delaney, Danielle & husband Mike Marino, and Matthew & wife Shannon Bowman, by great-grandchildren Tripp, Bella, August, Sam, Grace, Robbie, Madison, Sadie, and Mackenzie, by several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Being amongst friends and family is what she appreciated most in life. She is predeceased by her husband Jack, sister Rebecca Smith, brother Tom Racine, and great-grandson Quinlan Weekes. To say she will be missed is an understatement but to know how lucky we all are to have had her as a grandmother, great-grandmother, mom, aunt, sister or friend makes saying goodbye a little easier. A memorial service will be planned for later in the year when all of her loved ones can be together. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rowley – Mission Committee, PO Box 364, Rowley, MA 01969. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Tim, Chris, Jeff and Family, I am very sorry for your loss. I have such wonderful, fun memories of your Mom, growing up with you all in Danvers, time at Square Pond in Maine, bean suppers at Maple Street Church. She was such a fun person to be around and a wonderful friend to my Mom. Thinking of you all. Karen (Fox) Haggstrom

  2. Mame & Jack were longtime friends of my Parents. Find memories of them both coming over to our home with either Mame or Jack when you walked into a room and they were laughing you couldn’t help but start howling didn’t know what they were laughing about but you couldn’t help yourself.

  3. Mame was one of God’s angels on earth. She was a treat to be around. She brought joy wherever she was. My wife and I always told her she was a “hot ticket”. You never had to wonder what Mame was thinking. She spoke her mind and whatever opinion she had, deserved everyone’s respect. Mame, Helen Dobbins and I were the only members of the Missions Committee at First Congregational Church in Rowley, MA for two years. We were a small committee with much work to do, so we had to work much like the “little engine that could”. Mame made every meeting and every job, fun. Her feisty approach energized us.
My wife and I were so shocked to learn of her diagnosis. For someone who lived life to the fullest, it was so hard to believe, suddenly she faced such a devastating diagnosis and suddenly we would no longer see her in her little car, smiling as she entered Church on Sunday mornings. With the pandemic we could not visit her in the hospice facilities, so our memories are of her active life.
Mame lives on in our memories and in our hearts, …and will always be loved and greatly missed.
