PEABODY- Marion E. (Cullen) Cooney, 94, passed away on May 7, 2018 in the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody. She was the wife of the late Basil H. Cooney, a retired Massachusetts State Trooper. She was born on April 26, 1924. Marion was raised and educated in Chelsea. She attended Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton and went on to the New England Conservatory in Boston. Marion had been employed with the Internal Revenue Service as a tax auditor for many years in Andover and Methuen. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Dale Guglia of Danvers, her granddaughters, Gina Tangusso and her husband, John of Salem and Christine Guglia of New York, her nieces and nephews, Elaine DePrisco, Kathleen Sassanoff, John, Christopher, Stephen and Robert Hendry. She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Hendry and nephew, Paul Hendry. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Friday, May 11, 2018 in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marion’s name to the Employee Assistance Fund at Rosewood Nursing Home, 22 Johnson St., Peabody, MA, 01960.

I thought of Marion,as a remarkably strong lady,& also kind and giving,, I remember ,at holidays,that she would bake these delicious, pecan pies,that my Mom and I couldn’t wait to get as a gift at Christmas.,Her many talents, including, knitting ,baking etc,etc,were passed on,to her daughter Claire…,,she enjoyed reading,and was very smart,,,,,,,she loved her family,and we loved her,,,,,,,her heavenly father called her home to be with him,but our memories of her will stay with us here………Rest in Peace,,,,,,,love Kay

I think of Marion as a very strong lady,,,,,also kind and giving….My Mom and I couldn’t wait until Christmas to receive ,as a gift one of her delicious pecan pies..she had many other talents,,,including knitting and cooking etc etc which she passed on to her daughter Claire…..she loved to read and was very smart,, She loved her family and her family loved her,,,I know her father in heaven called her home but our memories of her will stay with us here—-Rest in Peace love K
