Mary A. Martin, 70, of Hamilton, died Sunday morning, January 25, 2026 at Beverly Hospital.
Born the sixth of eight children in Woburn on March 24, 1955, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine (Markley) Martin, Jr.. She was raised and educated in Winchester and was a 1973 graduate of Winchester High School where she enjoyed cheerleading. She went on to study at Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School.
Mary was employed as a secretary to Henry Bradford Washburn at the Museum of Science in Boston.
Early in her adulthood, Mary was diagnosed with a mental disorder that would sadly define the rest of her life, but this never stopped her from being a generous and authentic free spirit. Her family loved her dearly and will miss her contagious laugh.
She leaves her siblings, Anne Cranney and her husband Michael, Thomas Martin, Kathleen Martin Plummer and her husband Jake, Jane Webster, and Michael Martin and his wife Patty, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, John Martin III and Daniel Martin and her nephew, Daniel Webster.
Her family is grateful to Diane Short at Eliot Community Human Services for her unwavering kindness to Mary for many years. Thanks are also shared with Richard Bevins for being there for Mary and her whole family and to Catherine, Amanda, Karen, Lois, and the doctors and nurses at Beverly Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00a.m. in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be in the church prior to Mass from 10:00a.m. To 10:45a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Mass Association for Mental Health, 50 Federal St., Boston MA 02110, online at www.mamh.org. Arrangements are by C.R.
