Peabody— Penelope C. (Thornton) Famulari,95, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022, at Hawthorne Hill in Danvers surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Frank T. Famulari. Born in Swampscott on June 19, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Margaret Jane Thornton. She was raised and educated and Swampscott and graduated from Swampscott High in 1943. She had resided in Danvers and Peabody for the past 60 years. Penny worked at the former Jordan Marsh and more currently, Macy’s for over 50 years. Penny is survived by her two daughters, Margaret Jane Murphy and her husband, Bill of Danvers and Nancy Ciampa of Peabody, her devoted and loving sister Caroline Tewksbury and her husband Bill of North Reading. She was the cherished grandmother of Julia Scott and her husband Michael, the loves of her life and great grandmother of Michael and Ariana Scott. She is also survived by her loving godchild, Maureen Lawler of Gloucester, many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Penny was predeceased by her siblings, John Thornton, Mary Crouse, Marjorie Lawler and Eileen Hughes. Penny’s family would like to acknowledge the staff at Hawthorne Hill Nursing in Danvers, along with hospice who all provided such care and compassion to their beautiful mom. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Penny’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN, 38105.   1. I have fond memories of dear Aunt Penny . She loved to sing and I thought she was as close as it came to Judy Garland when she the “ Trolley Song” to me as a little 5 year old girl. Back in the 1940’s the music was singable and all the lyrics are memorable to this old 84 year old niece of dear Aunt Penny. Love you still. Always will. Pat
