DANVERS, MA – Robert J. Cyr Sr., beloved father and grandfather of Danvers, died on March 6, 2021. He was 85 years old. Born in Salem Massachusetts on November 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Mary (Wisnieski) Cyr, brother of the late Gilbert Cyr all of Beverly, MA. Robert “Bob” Cyr was a graduate of Beverly High School, attending North Shore Community College before finishing his education at Salem State. Bob was a firefighter with the Danvers Fire Department for 32 years achieving the rank of captain. He was a proud member of the Danvers Firefighters IAFF Local 2038, continuing his work and brotherhood on the retirement board. Bob was a caring fire fighter, dedicating his life to the lives of others. All who knew Bob described him as a kind and gentle soul. Bob also enjoyed his time working at the Calvary Church and Lyons Funeral Home. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch hockey and football especially his beloved Boston Bruins. Bob loved boating and fishing and passed that love onto his children and grandchildren. Bob also enjoyed gardening and spending time at the beach. He was a loving father and “Grampy” to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children Robert J. Cyr Jr. and his wife Donna of North Reading MA; Lisa A. Blomster and her husband Wayne of Danvers, MA; Jeffrey A. Cyr and his wife Christine of Pelham NH; five grandchildren Sherri Blomster, Kristie McElroy, Matthew Cyr, Sean Cyr and Jennifer Calderini; and 3 great-grandchildren Parker and Ford McElroy and Nathaniel Calderini. He was a loving step-father and grandfather to Brenda, Robert, Allie and Brett Aponas, and Rick Tucker. Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St, Danvers. All other services are private. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Donations in Bob’s name can be made to Boston Shriners Hospital for Children https://donate.lovetotherescue.org.

  3. We are very moved by the video of Bob. I knew Bob as a Danvers Firefighter when I was an Air Force Firefighter at Pease AFB in the mid to late 1960’s. Bob was certainly one of the “Good guys” that’s for sure. So sorry about his passing.
