In Loving Memory of Roger E. Michaud
March 14, 1933 – May 14, 2025

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Roger E. Michaud, beloved uncle, devoted husband, cherished brother and dear son, whose wry wit, warmth, and sense of adventure touched the lives of many. He is predeceased by his wife, Audrey (Robinson). Their love for one another was sweet and deeply devoted. And the story of their meeting is one for the ages: Roger the patient and Audrey his nurse.

Roger lived a life that spanned the globe, traveling extensively both during his time in the service and later while performing audits at U.S. embassies around the world. Ever the clever planner, Roger scheduled his audits on Mondays, so he could fly out on Fridays, explore new cities over the weekend, and arrive fresh and ready to work. On one memorable trip, Roger flew around the world, “so, I lost a day,” he would say. His travels were not just part of his job—they were part of his joy.

Roger and his beloved wife, Audrey, created a warm and welcoming home wherever they landed and especially loved their neighborhood on Bayberry Road in Danvers, where every Christmas Eve, elves would arrive with candy canes and nips, a tradition that perfectly captured the blend of kindness and whimsy that Roger cherished. The Bayberry group were like family. Roger and Audrey made sure there were always presents for their many nieces and nephews, creating a sense of belonging and celebration that extended far beyond the walls of their home. And when it came time to hand out parts for “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” Roger famously and dramatically sang “five golden rings,” bringing down the house every year with his theatrical flair and unmistakable joy.

Roger had an infectious love of music and performance. He adored Rodgers and Hammerstein and Lerner and Loewe musicals, had a soft spot for calypso music, and danced like there was no tomorrow. In his final months at Kaplan Estates, Roger quickly became a fan favorite. One memorable dinner, without prompting, he delivered a moving rendition of Danny Boy, his voice ringing through the room and captivating residents and staff alike.

Roger was passionate about basketball. He discovered the game, and his talent, at St. Joseph School in Salem, going on to play in the Army, travelling to bases across Europe, Northeastern University, and park leagues. He played well into his 60s. He was a stalwart fan of the Celtics, able to recount the team’s history in remarkable detail, and he followed the team, analyzing games like a pro, throughout his life. Basketball was a source of great fun, friendships, and memories for Roger.

Roger was a man of deep and steady faith. He practiced his beliefs with quiet consistency, attending Mass regularly and living out his values through kindness, generosity, and integrity. The faith that he and Audrey shared was a source of strength and comfort throughout their lives.

Roger was born and raised in Salem, the son of Irene (Morin) and Edgar Michaud. He shared a close bond with his siblings who all attended St. Joseph School. He is survived by his brother-in-law, George Normand, and sister-in-law, Beverly Michaud, and predeceased by his siblings Jacqueline Normand, Lorraine Novello (Russell), Roland (Sallie), and Edgar (Florence); and his niece by marriage, Loretta Michaud (Paul).

Roger will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews who adored him: Mark Russell Prior (Abby Russell) of Concord, MA; Mary Beth (Prior) Coles (Rob) of Stoneham, MA; Keith Prior (Domingas Silva) of Brockton, MA; Robert Michaud (Christine) of Kingston, NH; Victoria (Michaud) Richard (Eugene) of Kingston, NH; Anne Michaud Harman (Dan) of Huntington, NY; Bill Michaud (Nancy Leach) of New Hartford, CT; Mary Michaud (Mark Edwards) of Fleetwood, NC; Glenn Michaud of Lynn, MA; Gail Michaud Parente of Melrose, MA; Paul Michaud (Loretta) of Houston, TX; Janet Michaud (Michael Montgomery) of Washington, DC and many dear friends from Bayberry Road.

Roger’s sense of humor, and generous spirit leave behind a legacy of love and joy. His stories of world travels, his devotion to Audrey, and his commitment to family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before, and may we honor his memory by cherishing the journeys—large and small—that make life extraordinary.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Roger will always be remembered as my second father. Knowing he and Audrey are together brings me peace. My prayers for his family and gratitude for all they did for Roger and Audrey.

  2. We spent many hours playing “JACK BENNY” basketball at the Danvers field house in the eighties. I’m 16 years younger than Roger but he played a great game even then! Will miss bumping into him in the square. Rest in Peace

  3. Roger was a great neighbor and friend to my family. My sister Pat and I grew up with him and Audrey, swimming in their pool, having them to our house and us to theirs for many holidays and events. Later on even my kids, Kaitlyn and Stephanie, enjoyed time spent with both Audrey and Roger. Making a snow family in their yard was a great memory. So many good times on Bayberry Road with the Michauds and many fond memories. Love to the family

  4. Roger, always the gracious host, whether it be sharing holidays with his siblings, or Christmas Eve (always a favorite evening on Bayberry Road) or cookouts and swimming in his back yard, he always made everyone
feel welcomed and special. He deeply loved his family and any celebrations, especially the weddings of his nieces
and nephews, or barbecues in NH. When the music started playing, Roger was on the dance floor, totally into his own unique style, the “dancing king.” Now, at Peace, with Audrey again, I’m sure he’s dancing.
My deepest condolences and sympathies to all who knew and loved Roger, he will be forever remembered.
