Born in: Lowell, Massachusetts
Resided in: Danvers, Massachusetts

Rosemary M. (Oskar) Carney, 93, passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 12, 2026, at High Pointe Hospice House. She was the wife of the late John F. “Frank” Carney.

Born in Lowell on September 16, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Paul Oskar, MD, and Alice (Coskren) Oskar. Rosemary was raised and educated in Lawrence and graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in 1950. She went on to attend Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut. After nearly a decade as a nomadic military family, she and her husband settled in Danvers, where they raised their family of seven. She did volunteer work at St. Mary of Annunciation School and St. John’s Prep in Danvers. She also had a part time career in real estate once her children had grown up.

In addition to her 7 children who thought she was the best mother of all time; Rosemary was a proud grandmother of 16 and a great grandmother of 20. She adored each and every one of them and followed their lives closely regardless of distance.

Resilience was her superpower; her brilliant smile was her trademark. She was always an avid reader spending her later days with her Kindle. At last count, there were over 1000 books read. One of her great loves was the beach. It was where she met her husband, Frank, and where she spent many summers in Seabrook with her growing family and countless vacations on tropical islands. In recent years, long drives along the coast were one of her favorite pastimes. Though she was confined to a wheelchair over the last several years, she never missed an opportunity to have fun. Whether it was a boat ride on Long Lake or posing on a snowmobile with 2 of her daughters in midwinter, she loved a good time and was always the life of the party with a smile on her face and a martini, very, very, very dry with 2 olives, in her hand. Cocktail hour was 5 o’clock sharp.

She is survived by six children, Maureen Cullen and her husband, Joe of Hampton, NH, John Carney, Jr. and his wife Debra of Conway, NH, Chris Fisler and her husband Parke of Newbury, Rosemary Marella of Newburyport, Tara Runnals and her husband Del of Harrison, ME, Kate Bartol and her husband Todd of Newburyport, her daughter-in law Kim Carney of Salisbury, 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and her beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Carney, her grandson, Jake Carney, her brother Paul Oskar, and her longtime companion Fred Connors.

Her funeral service will be held at 10AM on Monday, January 19, 2026, at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be held from 2-4PM on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the funeral home. Guestbook

  1. Maureen and Family,
It is with great sorrow that I read of your Mom’s passing. She was a smile and a person that I missed when I moved out of Atria. Ever the Lady, she held herself with such class, but never regal. My memory of her was always with a “book” or Kindle in her lap a smile on her face, and most definitely a twinkle in her eye.
I enjoyed conversations with her while she talked about her family and how proud she was of all of you and how much joy you gave her.
Please accept my condolences on your loss. No doubt she is holding “court” in a much better place.
