Ruth N. Skane

DANVERS- Ruth N. (Horsford) Skane, 94, passed away on July 23, 2016. She was the wife of the late Harold Skane, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage. Born in Revere on March 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William and Bernice (Thayer) Horsford. Ruth was raised and educated in Revere and graduated from Revere High School. Ruth raised her family in Everett and moved to Danvers in 1962. She spent her remaining years in Hampton, NH with her daughter, Carol. She had worked at Transitron in Wakefield for several years. Ruth was an accomplished artist and worked with several churches in the Malden area including The Chapel and Calvary Temple painting murals, illustrations and other art works. She also wrote and illustrated children’s’ books and enjoyed gardening. She is survived by three children, Harold Skane and his wife Jill of Staceyville, ME, Ruth MacKay and her husband Colin of Danvers and Carol Rackliffe and her husband Brian of Hampton, NH, eight grandchildren, Robin, Leanne, Kerrin, Kristin, Brian, Eric, Jason and Joelle and sixteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Bernice Benson, Mildred Foley and Doris Thistle, Ruth's twin. Her Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 6-8PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Ruth’s name to the Office of Development, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
