Danvers - Virginia M. Gilligan 89 of Danvers, died at her home of 62 years on Saturday April 11, 2020. Born March 31, 1931 in Ipswich Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Rose Lezon. She graduated from Ipswich High School in 1948 and attended nursing school and worked for North Shore Baby Hospital. She was a real estate agent at Potter and Thompson in Danvers for many years. On October 12, 1953, she married the love of her life, Thomas Gilligan Jr. They shared 37 years together until his death in July of 1990. They raised 4 children in Danvers. In 1997, Virginia married Richard Cusak and they cared for each other in Danvers until her death. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She loved her family so much. She enjoyed traveling, visiting Spain, Paris France, Germany, China, San Francisco and San Antonio Texas to name just a few places. She enjoyed her home in Danvers. Getting together with family gave her much joy. Virginia was a great listener and had a beautiful smile. Her grace and kindness will be sorely missed. Virginia is survived by her sister Dorothy Levesque, her daughter Kathleen Salangsang and her husband Rick in California, her son Tom Gilligan and his wife Penny in Tennessee, her daughter Patty Burroughs and her husband Steve in Texas, and Mathew Gilligan and his wife Linda in Massachusetts. She was grandmother to Laurie, Christine, Christina, Paige, Riale and Sebastian, great grandmother to Sammy, Danny, Deborah, Liana, and Adrian. Due to the current CDC guidelines, her Funeral Mass at Saint Mary of Annunciation Church and a celebration of her life will be arranged at a later date.

  1. Ginny was the best neighbor and friend you could ever ask for. She was always smiling and happy to see you. Ginny always had kind words regardless of the situation. She was a great historian for the neighbors around the Mill Pond. She will be missed by all of us. What a wonderful person I am so happy to have known her. She called me on the Tuesday before she passed, it was an accidental call but I was happy to speak to her one last time. All the best to her husband Richard, and her family near and far.
