Warren McCarthy, 92, died peacefully on August 31, 2020. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Joan (Collins) McCarthy, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Born on October 19, 1927, Warren was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Hogan) McCarthy. He was raised and educated in Peabody, Massachusetts until his enlistment in the U.S. Army, where he served with the 34th General Hospital in Korea. Warren also served in the U.S. Navy at the Chelsea Naval Hospital until 1952. After his honorable discharge, Warren became a Danvers Police Officer and continued to serve his community for 32 years. In 1980, he received the Man of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Police Association for his heroism thwarting an armed robbery. In his retirement years, Warren enjoyed spending his time as a member of the Gerry 5 and Vittori-Rocci Post attending the dinner dances and simply drinking coffee with his friends down the mall. Warren was predeceased by his sisters, Marion Stepenuk and Dorothy Sheehan, and brothers, Ralph, Raymond, and Arthur McCarthy. In addition to his wife, Warren is survived by his four children, Stephanie Waldroup and her husband Richard; Linda Faneuf and her husband Richard; James McCarthy and his wife Maureen; and Karen Auen and her partner Mark Poulin; his sister-in-law, Theresa McCarthy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Warren’s legacy also lives on through his seven grandchildren whom he never failed to make laugh - Christopher and Courtney McCarthy; Michael Waldroup and his fiancé Julie Lernihan; Matthew Waldroup and his fiancé Kelly Fisher; Samantha Lane and her husband Andrew; Meaghan Faneuf; Talia Auen; Kate Wendlandt and her husband Chris and his three great-grandchildren, Hazel and Madeline Lane and Luke Wendlandt who will grow to love him through shared memories, because “like Arnie used to say ‘I’ll be back!’”.
