Joan Marian Cushing

NORTH ANDOVER- Joan Marian (Moritz) Cushing, 86, passed away surrounded by her family on January 5, 2020 in Sutton Hill Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late John P. Cushing.
Born in Boston on July 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Michaels) Moritz. Joan was a graduate of Jamaica Plains High School in 1951. They raised their family in Peabody and had been parishioners of Saint John the Baptist Church. In her later years, Joan had resided at the Brooks House in Salem. Joan enjoyed crocheting and decorating.
She is survived by five children, John Cushing of WA, Joan and Tom Sands of NH, Stephen Cushing of WA, Denise and Bob LaRoche of NH and Gregory and Alison Cushing of ME, fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marian Ciruolo, two granddaughters, Amy and Stephanie Cushing and her brother, Albert Moritz.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Unfortunately, I did not have much contact with “Aunt Dolly”. As a child I recall a couple of visits to her home and was amazed how clean the home was even with having 6 children to keep in line. It was very touching to watch the video. Aunt Dolly had a very rich family life and I believe that was a source of much of her happiness.
