Adelaide Vitale
March 17, 1931 ~ June 2, 2024
Adelaide (Palmieri) Vitale, aged 93, passed away on June 2nd, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 17th, 1931, in Sparanise, Italy, to Filomena Costanzo and Luigi Palmieri.
Adelaide was the beloved sister of Vincenzo Palmieri and Maria Di Vito, Francesco Palmieri and Nunzia Minigini, Guiseppe Palmieri and Concetta Raimondo, and Elvira Palmieri and Salvatore Vitale.
Adelaide was the mother of Annamaria Piatelli and Robert Piatelli, and a loving grandmother to Rico and Parisa Piatelli, Eric and Ali Piatelli, and Andrew and Samantha Piatelli, and Chase. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Theodore Piatelli, as well as her family still in Italy including Mariagrazia Vitale and Aldo Pascarella and children Ilaria and Nicola, Giovanni Vitale and Lucia Russo and son Salvatore, Tina Vitale and Angelo Farina and children Annalisa, Pietro and Luca.
In 1951, Adelaide came to America, where she settled in Somerville, and worked at Coldwater Seafood, Converse Rubber, and Hood Milk. Even after retirement, her love of cooking and people led her to work in the cafeterias of Malden and Danvers public schools, where she could share that love with countless students and staff.
Adelaide lived for her grandchildren, always cooking and ensuring everyone was taken care of. She treated everyone as if they were one of her own, and her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by the ones she loved. Adelaide was known for her generosity and kind heart, and she was loved by everyone who had the privilege of meeting her.
A special thank you to Elvira and Bernardino DeLuca, Giovanni, Uda, and Bianca Salerno, as well as everyone else who was by her side to support her at the end.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM on Thursday, June 6, 2024 in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Visitation will be held Thursday from 8:30AM-10:45AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. She will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden with the same love and care that she made sure she gave so freely throughout her life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Adelaide’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org
Mia cara zizi Adeline, I’m sorry you had to leave. I will always think of you when I’m cooking but that’s how we connected every time I brought you food. It wasn’t about the food but the love & respect that we had for each other. God calls it “It is in giving that we receive.” So you received it with love & Faith.
