Albert W. Abbott

Albert W. Abbott, 88, passed away on February 22, 2014 in Masconomet Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Geraldine M. (Haskins) Abbott with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster, NH on November 17, 1925, he was the son of the late William and Marion (Howe) Abbott. He was raised and educated in Danvers and graduated from Holten High School. . Albert served our country with the United States Marine Corps. During WWII and was honorably discharged. He was awarded two purple hearts for his service. Albert attended the Tilton Academy. He was the owner of Abbott Door for over 45 years.
Besides his wife, Geraldine, he is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Kevin Payne of Concord, NH, Patricia and Steven Boyer of Georgetown and Carolyn and Jeffrey Karp of Beverly, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Allen J. Abbott and his sister Virginia Conway.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Albert’s name to The Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA, 02284.

Al was my “door” man for decades. GREAT AMERICAN, GREAT GUY. Hardest of workers…..I’d offer to help with something heavy or large…but no, no he prefered to do it all alone. Honest as the day is long…..I just read that he passed…..he’ll be missed by many I’m sure. Led by example….reminded me of my Dad….the GREATEST generation loses another valuable member.
