Anne H. Barrows

Anne H. (Hyland) Barrows, 83, died peacefully, with family present, on February 21, 2024, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a period of declining health. Anne was the cherished wife of the late Robert A. Barrows, Sr., who preceded her in death just eight months ago, marking the end of a 67 year partnership of love, dedication, and mutual support.
Born in Passaic, New Jersey, on March 2, 1940, to the late Thomas and Agnes (Young) Hyland, she was raised in Carlstadt, New Jersey, before graduating from St. Mary's High School in neighboring Rutherford.
Anne, alongside her beloved husband, Robert, built a warm and loving home in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, where they raised their two sons with love and devotion.
Anne's professional journey began at New Jersey Bell, from where she retired after more than 35 years of service, concluding her career with Verizon. Her work ethic was unparalleled, and she carried this into her retirement, working at the Northeast Harbor Tennis Club in Northeast Harbor, Maine, and at Publix Super Market in Naples, Florida, bringing joy and dedication to every endeavor. Anne often stated that her favorite hobby was work.
Upon retirement, Anne & Bob found joy in summering on Mount Desert Island, Maine, and wintering in Naples, Florida. They were parishioners at St. Anne Church in Naples and Holy Redeemer Church in Bar Harbor, Maine, embodying their faith in their daily lives.
Anne leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her sons, Robert A. Barrows, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Danvers, MA and Bradford Barrows and his girlfriend, Gina Costa, of Brick, NJ; her adored five grandchildren, Courtney McKeown and her husband, Ian of Newmarket, NH, Robert S. Barrows and his wife, Kara of Blauvelt, NY, Katie Laorenza and her husband, Sam of Reading, MA, Christina Sarro and her husband, Jared of Danvers, MA, and Rob Barrows of Brick, NJ; five great grandchildren, Ted, Jeffrey, Lucy, Madison and Jack; her brother, Thomas Hyland of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; her sister, Lucy Caulfield of Sharon, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Philip Hyland and Mary Chambers.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 10AM in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 4-7PM in C.R. Lyons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. aunt anne and uncle bob realy liked bonefish grill. she met with my mom for lunch and I think uncle bob she left at home- and I said Id meet them after school/ soccer. I figured I would pick up flowers because I havent seen her in a while. So I show up with the flowers and she starts crying immediately – Im thinking I did something wrong and thats when I found her cancer came back. She thought my mom told me before hand – I didnt. But she was so happy saying she hasnt gotten flowers for years and she texted me all week giving me flower udates. And thats when my mom started bringing her to sloan for her treatments. ❤️
