Born in Cambridge on May 28, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Flanagan) Sargent. Anne Marie was raised and educated in Hamilton and was a proud member of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Class of 1966. She remained a lifelong resident of Maple Street, where her deep roots and unwavering commitment to her hometown became a defining part of her life.

Anne Marie’s love for Hamilton was evident in all she did. She was instrumental in reviving the town’s Christmas Tree Bonfire, helped establish the cherished “Pumpkins in the Park” event, and worked tirelessly to ensure that Patton Park was beautifully decorated with Christmas lights each holiday season. Her civic involvement also included serving as past president of the Acord Food Pantry and the Hamilton Historical Society.

For 39 years, Anne Marie served the Town of Hamilton as an emergency dispatcher, ultimately holding the role of Chief Dispatcher. Her steady presence, calm demeanor, and dedication to public safety made her a trusted and respected figure in the community.

Following her retirement, she embraced a second chapter as a substitute teacher at the Buker Elementary School, where she formed meaningful relationships with both students and staff, continuing her lifelong commitment to service and care for others.

A woman of deep faith, Anne Marie was a longtime communicant of the Church of St. Paul in Hamilton, where she served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and acolyte.

In addition to her husband, Walter, she is survived by her loving children: Linda Mastrianni and her husband David of Hamilton; Joan Gebhardt and her husband Michael of Cumming, Georgia; and Sean Cullen and his wife Erin of Hamilton. She was a favorite substitute teacher for my youngest daughter, Aerin, among hundreds of other children I know. Walter, my heart is with you and your family as you grieve this remarkable woman. 7. While I can’t be with you in person, my heart is with you. May God grant you peace as you navigate this sad time. Anne Marie was a most beautiful person.

  8. A devout and faithful Christian, even in her final days as her health failed, Anne Marie Cullen was reading devotionals in the treatment centers and encouraging others who visited or called her to do the same. She exemplified the wisdom expressed in Proverbs 14:26, since she had strong confidence in the Lord and provided her children with the same refuge. As always, she led the way for us and she is safely at home in the everlasting arms of her loving Creator. And, this is our comfort, though she will be sorely missed by us all. Applying Biblical Truths Today has her full tribute.

  9. Dearest Cullen and Sargent Family,
Ann Marie was a true light of God in this world. It was so clear to see she lived a faith and love-filled life. There must be great rejoicing in Paradise as another angel returns home to God. Our love, hearts, and prayers are with and will remain with all of you during this difficult time. May you all feel God’s loving arms embracing and carrying you. Ann Marie’s legacy lives on in each one of you.
    Love,

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him (Jesus) so that you may overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. -Romans 15:13

  10. Hamilton was lucky to have her. A great person. A great laugh. She will be missed. My condolences to her family.

  11. Anne Marie was a lifelong Friend of the McGuiness Family. My grandmother baby sat for her and Peggy and Anne Marie was our baby sitter. I looked for to seeing her, either at church or the Weathervane, when I was back in Hamilton for a visit. She let me know when she was visiting her sister-in-law in Colorado and made sure we spent a day together. It was a very nice day. I’ll be back for a visit in a few weeks and I’m sure Hamilton just won’t feel the same!
Rest In Peace Anne Marie, You, Butch and your entire Family are in my Thoughts and Prayers!

  12. Auntie Re, I will miss your presence and I ask that God welcomes you in Paradise, and grant strength and comfort to friends, neighbors and family left behind. Amen

  15. Anne Marie was kind to me when she ran the bus trip to learn about Hamilton. On the fun trip around the area I ,
unfortunately, spoke of places I knew around town, Her TOWN. When we got off the bus, Anne Marie thanked me for sharing. This was her town;I have only been here for 50 years. The town has lost a gem!
