Mrs. Arline J (Chartier) Tremblay, 80, wife of Richard A. Tremblay of Danvers, died Sunday, July 11th, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers of complications from a series of strokes. Born in Salem on June 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Jeanette (Voyer) Chartier. Nicknamed "Pee Wee", she was raised and educated in Salem where she lived for 52 years before moving to Danvers in 1982. She graduated from St. Mary's Commercial School in 1946, remaining close friends with many of her classmates for the remainder of her life. A bookkeeper by profession, she spent several years working for the Salem News in the accounts department, followed by more than 20 years at Snow Crest Finer Foods Inc. in Salem. In 1950, she married Richard A. (Dick) Tremblay, with whom she celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past May. Arline was active with the Girl Scouts, serving as a local Troop Leader for many years. She was an avid reader, a talented seamstress and in her later years, enjoyed the peace of her garden at home. Arline is survived by her husband, Richard A. Tremblay of Danvers; her five children: Joan and her husband Howard Smith of Atlanta, GA; Richard E. ("Rick") of Danvers; Ken and his wife Betty (Lagana/MacDonald) of Middleton; Tom and his wife Kathy (Daly) of Peabody; Janet and her husband Michael Bessey of West Wareham. She also leaves a brother, Carl Chartier and his wife Jeanne (Begin) of Nashua, NH; six grandchildren: Alicia (Tremblay) Haverty of Methuen, MaryEllen (Tremblay) Bowman of Fairfax Station, Virginia; Molly and Michael Tremblay of Peabody; Adam and Amy Bessey of West Wareham. She had three great-grandchildren: Dylan and Jack Haverty of Methuen, and Sophia Bowman of Fairfax Station, Virginia. A devoted mother and friend with a warm and generous spirit, she will be greatly missed. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Fri., July 16, 2010 in St. Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Vst. Hrs are Thurs. from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Arline’s name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Hospice of the N.S., 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
