Barbara M. Cyr

Barbara M. Cyr, 88, of Danvers, passed away on July 11, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Arnold L. Cyr and high school sweetheart with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.
Born in Danvers on March 6, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James and Florence (Barney) Prentiss. Barbara graduated from Holten High School in 1953. In addition to raising five children, she returned to school to become a Cosmetologist. She was the owner of the Beauty Barn on Poplar Street in Danvers for many years. Customers spoke adoringly of Barbara, feeling she added a special touch to the experience.
Barbara was a gifted artist, when younger she acted in several plays and minstrels. She was a self-taught painter and keyboard player. More recently she held her family title of champion of virtual bowling. Barbara was the ultimate host and adored entertaining. Her friends and family would benefit from her delicious baking and comfort food specialties, often in her summer home on Pine River Pond. Barbara was also a member of “Club” (a group of a dozen lifelong friends) whom she enjoyed spending time with. Barbara and Arnold spent several winters in their home in St. Petersburg, Fla. where they enjoyed time with some of those same friends as members of the Eagles Club and VFW.
In addition of her husband, Arnold, she is survived by five children, Arnold Cyr, Jr. and his wife Dee of ME, Daniel Cyr and his longtime partner, Evelyn Bailey of W. Newbury, Sandra Devins and her husband, Mark of NH, Susanne Stawarz and her husband Steve of NH and Michael Cyr and his wife, Aurelie of Burlington, two siblings, Joanne Kobierski of Danvers and James Prentiss, Jr. of Gloucester, ten grandchildren, Darren (Heather) Casey (Tracy), Shalyn (Christian), Luke, Nicholas, Rachael, Stephanie (Evan), Arnold Cyr, III, Joshua and Zach, seven great grandchildren, Leotie, Koda, Quinn, Ruby, Forest, Sophie and Charlie and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Judy Gooding and Brenda Blais.
Her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St, Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be held in the funeral home from 4-7Pm on Tuesday, July 16, 0224.
