Betty Perkins
January 23, 1930 ~ June 7, 2015
Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Perkins, 85, died Sunday, June 7, 2015 following a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of the late Norris Perkins, who predeceased her in 1999.
Born in Beverly on Jan. 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Lucas) Mallon. She was raised and educated in Manchester-by-the Sea and was a graduate of Story High School in Manchester and Fisher Junior College.
Prior to her marriage, Betty was employed at the former United Shoe in Beverly, and after her children had grown, worked at the Salem Commercial School and then Hogan Regional Center until the time of her retirement.
A longtime Danvers resident, Betty was a proud Republican who was a faithful contributor to the Letters to the Editor page. She enjoyed travel and was an author who published two books.
Most of all, Betty was dedicated to her family. Whether it was the PTA, teaching Sunday school at the Maple Street Church, or being a Girls Scout leader, family was everything to her.
She leaves three daughters and their husbands, Dr. Elaine M. and James Bird, Patricia A. and George Chace Jr., and Linda E. and Charles Angeramo Jr., her grandchildren, Michael and Laura Bird, Kimberly Bird, Kristin Thomas, Matthew and Cheryl Chace, Kerri Chace, Kara Shallow, Ryan Shallow, and Grace Angeramo, five great-grandchildren, three sisters, Connie Accomando of Beverly, Faith Schirm of Los Gatos, CA, and Joan Wogan of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 10AM in the Maple Street Congregational Church, 90 Maple St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s name may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.

Aunt Betty, you remain one of my all time favorite people in the world! A brilliant woman, generous to a fault, loving, caring without a mean bone in your body! You made the world and those who were fortunate enough to know you, better. Love you.
Linda sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love You
Betty was so kind to my sisters & I when we visited from California. One of the nicest people I have ever met. I have great childhood memories of the block parties, 4th of July parade, the carnivals, seeing the witch house behind her house, singing beach & finding out I could spend endless hours looking for frogs in her yard. She really knew how to make us happy. I’ll miss her very much. What a wonderful person.
I’ve really never know anyone quite like Betty…
She gave only her best self to others, and really saw the best in everyone she encountered…never complained or felt sorry for herself. She lived with so much integrity…could never do enough for others. Cared only about the comfort of the people around her. She smiled easily and incessantly… and it was always a purely sincere smile. Her joy was genuine and infectious. She taught me so much about how to be a friend, a wife, and a mother….and about how to live my best life. She was a wonderful example for all of us who were lucky enough to know her. I will miss her forever and keep her close to my heart always. And when I get ready to walk out my door each day, I’ll always remember to quickly tidy my hair and freshen up my lipstick, in true Betty fashion. I intend to take her with me wherever I go.
My most sincere sympathy to Elaine, Patty, Linda, their spouses; Betty’s grandchildren, great grandchildren; and to Betty’s sisters. You are all the source that fed the boundless joy that Betty endlessly shared with the world–you were her sunshine. And, I think I know what she meant, and will always mean, to you. Our hearts are with you all.
Brenda and Biff
