Brother Ronald A. Bonti, C.F.X., 80, died Thursday morning, March 14, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was a member of the Congregation of the Brothers of Saint Francis Xavier for nearly 64 years. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 23, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Rose (Mortola) Bonti. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn and was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School in Brooklyn. He entered the Xaverian Brothers in September of 1949 and was invested with the holy habit on March 19, 1950, taking the name Brother Vernon. After earning his degree from Catholic University, Brother taught at Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore from 1955-1961 and Flaget High School in Louisville from 1961-1964. He then served in the Xaverian Mission in Bolivia for more than a decade, returning in 1977 to Xaverian High School in Brooklyn where he spent the remainder of his career until his retirement in 2006. In addition to his brothers in religion, he leaves a sister, Olga Bonti of Brooklyn, NY, and a loving extended family. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11AM in the Chapel of St. John’s Preparatory School (Admin. Bldg.), 72 Spring St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Xaverian Brothers’ Cemetery, Danvers. Visitation will be prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:45 in the Chapel.
