In 2017, he retired to his alma mater, Saint John’s High School, which had moved to Shrewsbury just after his own graduation, and in 2023 he joined the community at Xaverian House in Danvers.

Brother Cushing was my Sophomore English teacher at SJR. I can thank him for helping me be a much better writer. As an educator, I can say that he was ahead of his time. He would always grade your initial paper and then give you the opportunity to learn from his comments and resubmit the paper for a updated grade. A highly effective learning technique. It worked for me.
Rest in Peace.
