IPSWICH- Carl I. “Skip” Nelson, Jr., 88, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 in Beverly Hospital. He was the loving husband of Muriel (Leonard Heath) Nelson with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. Born in Winthrop on July 26, 1928, he was the son of the late Carl and Anna (Knudsen) Nelson. He was raised and educated in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1947. He raised his family in Hamilton and for the past nine years has resided in Ipswich. Skip had been employed with the former Eastern Airlines as a flight coordinator for 31 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Winthrop. Skip was also an avid golfer and a bibliophile. In addition to his wife, Muriel, he is survived by three children, Beverly Yacovitch of Danvers, Carla Nelson of Ipswich, Daniel Nelson and his wife Susan Payne-Nelson of Maine, six grandchildren, Charity Collier, Edward Nelson, Sara Nelson, Travis Yacovitch and Ruby and Eric Nelson, four great grandchildren , Anthony, Jacob, Ryan and Jasper. He was predeceased by his son, Edward Nelson and two siblings, Margaret “Peg” McCarthy and Stanley Nelson. His Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10AM on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9-9:45AM. Burial will follow the service in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the NorthEast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
