Born in: Stoneham, Massachusetts
Resided in: Danvers, Massachusetts

Caryl Cheyne, 80, of Danvers, MA, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, curiosity, and kindness.

Born in Stoneham, MA, Caryl’s sharp mind and passion for knowledge led her to graduate summa cum laude from Boston University with a degree in mathematics. She worked in the computer science field in the late 1960s — one of few women working in that field at the time. She stepped away to focus on her family and later worked for over 40 years at Filenes and Macy’s, where she formed lifelong friendships that she cherished like family.

Caryl was more than a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and best friend. She was a forever lunch date, a companion for new adventures, a volunteer, and a trusted confidant who had a quick and witty sense of humor. Her grandson Jonathan was the greatest joy of her life, and together they built Legos, conducted science experiments in the kitchen, hiked muddy trails, and found adventure in every moment. She never ended a conversation or said goodbye to her daughter Christie without saying I love you.

Carly loved all living things, especially animals and trees, and found peace in nature. Whether skiing, spending time on Cape Cod or in North Conway, or simply mowing the lawn, she embraced the beauty of the world around her. A devoted reader, she consumed the newspaper cover to cover daily and had a deep love for history, always eager to learn about the past. Caryl also loved going to BU hockey games with her dear sister Joan.

Caryl was patient and kind. She carried a quiet strength, a brilliant mind, and an unwavering kindness that touched everyone she met.

The family will gather for a private ceremony to honor Caryl’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Caryl’s name to MSPCA Angell at https://support.mspca.org or Mass Audubon at https://www.massaudubon.org.  Online condolences are available at www.LyonsFuneral.com
